Avastor hard drives continue to make their way into pro A/V facilities around the globe. A recent article on BroadcastNewsroom.com about an audio restoration project mentions Avastor drives as the choice method of storing and transporting the restored media. What is medical grade media? We get that question now and again from customers looking for quality DVD and CD discs. Basically there are some agreed-upon standards that media must meet to be called "medical grade" The DICOM (Digital Information and Communications in Medicine) Standard is a big part of this. MAM-A explains DICOM and the MAM-A manufacturing process on their site. TDK Medical is a major player in the medical media market; they also have stringent guidelines for producing medical grade media; you can read the TDK details on the TDK Medical site. Medical grade media is required in many hospitals and the market continues to grow as more facilities switch from film to digital media.

I was trying to figure out a way to relate this entry to Encore Data Products but that would be a stretch. As a 19X7 graduate of Clemson University I found this article pretty funny. Most of the planet does not know or does not care about the Clemson / Univ. of South Carolina rivalry but it is a good one. It seems South Carolina has a new license plate coming out that some folks think favors Clemson colors.

I think it looks great!  Now if it can somehow help Clemson football win another national championship...

Back in May I mentioned we added the Ion ITTUSB turntable. My plan was to buy one and start transferring my record collection. It was a good idea but this work stuff keeps getting in the way.  I guess my boxes of vinyl by Caterwaul, Del Fuegos, The Church, The 77's, The Alarm etc, etc. will have to wait a little longer...  At least I know others have the same idea since we have been selling a lot of these units. I was amazed by the amount of storage used at the CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC).  I researching Sun T10000 tape and found an article at searchstorage.com that details the LHC use of both disk storage systems and commercial tape drives.   When storage is measured in petabytes there is some serious working going on.   I would not mind landing a tape sale for this project!  We sell a lot of T10K tape but that gig would be pretty nice.
