Since we sell a lot of archival grade CD-R, DVD-R and DVD+R media we can tell there are many people out there making digital copies of their older media. Gold prices are well over $800 an ounce right now.  This means archival gold CD and DVD media is getting more expensive since gold is used in the production of the discs.  Since gold will not corrode the archival life expectancy is very high:  100+ years for DVD-R and DVD+R, 300+ years for CD-R.  Now that you have the finished discs where should you store them?  Standard jewel cases and DVD amaray cases are fine but for those who want to add a case that matches the quality of the media we now have an archival case by Stil Design.

Gold has gotten very expensive and we have seen the prices of Gold archival media go up again.  With gold now priced well above $800 the media manufacturers are passing that cost along; the amount of gold in each disc is not a lot but the high cost definitely adds to the manufacturing price of each unit.  Even with the higher costs we still see a high demand for gold media since the stability of the media continues to outweigh the price.  MAM-A Mitsui, Kodak, Verbatim and Delkin all offer gold products and currently we have inventory from all of them.
