What exactly is "green toner"?  It is different things to different people.  Remanufactured laser toner reuses the plastic shell which does help keep tons of empties out of landfills.  Some manufacturers offer recycling programs that allow you to ship back, sometimes for free, your empty cartridges to them; they will then reuse the cartridges either for refilling or for recycling the parts. 

What about the black laser powder that fills these cartridges?  The black toner is made from petroleum-based products.  While reloading the powder into a recycled cartridge definitely helps the environment we have an even better solution:
